With all the rain we've been having lately, it naturally came up in discussion with a group of us.
One of my co-workers told us there would be at least 3 more weeks of rain. When we questioned him, he said his Grand Father taught him as a young boy that if it rained on Easter Sunday, there would be 7 more weeks of wet weather.
"And how accurate has that been?"
"Pretty accurate. Not continuous rain, just regular rain. You know, 'wet weather'."
"Ever ask him more about it?"
"Yep. When he told me that, I said, "well, if that's true, what's the summer going to be like? Hot, mild...what?""
He said his Grand Father got r-e-a-l close to him, squinting and looking serious. Then barked, "Now what makes you think I can predict weather? Even those fools on TV are only guessing. I'm just passing on 'farmers' wisdom'."
"Only person I knew of that could predict weather, when he gave a forecast to the last 'ol boy, finished up by tellin' him to build an Ark."
"You want weather, go ask Him. And if He finds out it's you wantin' to know, most likely he'll tell you your long range forecast is going to be HOT! For a long, l-o-n-g time."
He told us his Grand Father scared the hell out of him with that. His eyes were as big as saucers when he ran in crying to his Grand Mother. She told him, "Never you mind the Old Fool. He's been scaring you young 'un's with that story since he was old enough to have children."
We all laughed at the story. But he did finish it up telling us the "7 week rule" has been pretty accurate since then.
Stories happen.
Folks around here told me about the 7 weeks of wet weather if it rained on Easter. Looks to be accurate this year anyway. And I'm so ready for gorgeous weather. Actually, I don't mind the rain too much. It's the power outages and threat of tornados that I don't like!

I love those old farmer tales! So many of them are awfully true!
