Cop Car posted about purchasing a new bed (amongst other things). Seems to be a trend here...
Dudette and I went shopping for a new mattress a couple weeks back. And yes, we did just buy a new mattress and box spring set about 2 1/2 years ago. However, the pillow top was driving us batty. Not that it wasn't comfy, it was. The problem is, it was TOO comfy.
The pillow top on the old mattress is very skooshy and warm (BTW...skooshy is a technical term and can only be used by trained professionals). The pillow top would let you sink into luxury and get tons of support all over. And you would sink in to the point you almost couldn't turn over. You had to pick yourself up to move around. Being stuck in one spot all night tends to make people stiff and sore. At least us, anyway.
And, the memory foam in it warmed up in no time. It never got cold sleeping on that thing. It did however, get HOT. Nothing quite like waking up in the middle of the night, hot, sweaty, and STUCK.
We finally decided we had to get a new mattress. So off we went.
Talking to the sales person, we learned that though our old mattress is classified as "FIRM", due to the pillow top design, it is the softest "FIRM" mattress ever made. Well, now. Ain't that special?
Anyhoo, we picked out a new mattress and it has been delivered. It is like sleeping on a rock compared to the old one. But we are giving it time for us to get used to the changes in "firmness". And, if it turns out we aren't satisfied, we have the option of returning it within 90 days for a different mattress.
We didn't get the hardest mattress available, nor the softest (we already have that one). So if we need to go in either direction, we have wiggle room (no pun intended).
Though I will have to say, every night gets a bit more comfy on the new one. It is easier to move around, so you don't have to wake up and become conscious in order to move around. Yet I do still wake up from time to time...not sure if it is a pressure point getting hit, or just the different feel. But, in the morning, I feel more rested and seem to wake up fully a bit quicker.
Dudette likes it better than the old one as well. I am not sure if both of us are convinced this is the "one", but it is better. I'll give it another couple weeks before making up my mind.
Sleep happens (with luck).
