A couple weeks ago when we had some bad weather, I was listening to the traffic reports on the drive into work.
As usual, with all the ice that accumulated overnight (all 1/4 inch of it), accidents, delays, and road closings were to be expected (you have to meet our drivers). And I wasn't disappointed listening to the reports.
*voice on the radio*: Car slid off the on-ramp here. Another car off here. Truck off the off-ramp here. Vehicle slid into barricade over here....(and on it went).
*voice stopped for air, then continued*: And police are responding to a report of a motorist locked in their car.......*VERY long pause*....Now that's different.
I think I blinked a couple times as that processed. "Locked IN their car?" Seriously now. Not sure if I heard that right. Once inside work, several of us got together to compare notes. And, yup, I heard right...locked IN their car.
Later, one of guys stopped by to say the announcer followed up the report by saying the police were still working to free the motorist. No one heard any more reports about it after that one. Bummer.
And yes, we debated just HOW someone locks themselves IN a car. We didn't debate for long though. Some mysteries are best left unanswered.
Mysteries happen.
The announcer was coorect, that was "different".
I hate electronic locks (although they are very convenient), I have an irrational fear of them not unlocking for me when I am in the car (no really, I do). Same thing with electric windows.
Now I'm beginning to think that my fear isn't so irrational.

Locked IN the car? Surely an almost-candidate for the Darwin award??

A guy at work came in today complaining that he couldn’t get out of his car. The locks wouldn’t unlock. More specifically, every time he unlocked the doors, the driver’s side door immediately re-locked itself. Fortunately, the passenger’s door was staying unlocked so he had to climber out that way. This guy is an Engineer, so I’ fairly sure he knew how to work his locks plus, he has had this vehicle a while). So yes, you can get locked in your car.
