Back to the Theatre...
The next two performances we saw were "My Fair Lady" and "Big River".
"My Fair Lady" was, as always, enjoyable. The biggest difference for this performance was to the role of Henry Higgins. Higgins was portrayed a bit younger in this show and that made the age difference a bit more believable between him and Eliza Doolittle. Seemed a lot less than cradle robbing this way.
"Big River"...well...I was spoiled. It first played in 1991 here and the cast that night were "clicking". Everyone was "on" that night and the chemistry was one of those once a lifetime happenings. This performance had to compete (to me) with a near perfect show. It was good, but lightening didn't strike twice. The cast was well picked for vocals and acting, but when you are up against what I remember...just not all there.
If you never saw the show before, you would have had the time of your life. For me, all I can say is, I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't disappointed.
Nights happen.
