The GEEK card is still in jeopardy. Dudette and I bought a GPS Nav. system the other day in preparation for a trip.
Being complete strangers to the GPS world, we did some research (CU had a good article on best buys and stuff, but didn't give us any real clue what we were getting into). So we headed out to the local electronics store.
The sales person was phenomenal. He knew what to ask US, to prod us along and give HIM the information he needed to answer our questions intelligently, yet clearly. We spent about 25 minutes doing the Q&A session before making our choice. (of course we knew from the start we would be making the "wrong" choice. But that's OK. Like most "starter stuff", you buy what you think you want, find out different, pass it along, and buy what you really want.)
Now, knowing absolutely nothing about this gizmo, we couldn't wait to open it up and get totally baffled, mystified, cranky, and ultimately, triumphant in our skills with it.
Our first scare was looking at the manual. I've seen rolls of toilet paper come with more instructions. Other than basic "push this", "tap that", it didn't have a lot more to say. And it didn't need to, the device is pretty intuitive.
The second freak-out was when we started playing with it and it "talked" to us. After a second to get over the voicing system, things settled down and we got moving right along.
Actually using it in the car was a laugh. The device decides the route you should be going. Any deviation and it chirps "re-calculating", then tells you the next turn you want to ignore. It's actually kind of fun, in a bizarre way, to mess with it and not follow its directions.
However, it does look like it will be of use to us. We'll know more by the time we get back from the trip.
Directions happen (to be ignored).
A GPS is on my wish list! Good luck and happy, safe journey!

WS just got a GPS since he will be going to job sites on a regular basis. He too was dismayed by the lack of instruction. They must be easy, he figured it out and used it the next day going to a job site.
Me, I haven't even seen what it looks like; I just ordered it and gave him the box when it got here.
We had a great time with your GPS in St. Louis, but I still have no idea how to operate one (which is fine since I don't need to know).
