I forgot to mention the storm we had Monday. As if my neck wan't bad enough to worry about.
A storm blew through in the early evening. I heard that there was a possibility for some nasty weather and was keeping an ear open on N.O.A.H. and hitting the weather radar on a regular basis.
The radar was not helping me feel better. I was watching the storm build as the radio was giving reports as to the weather it was producing. Before it got to us, I lost track of its progress. But when it hit, it had my attention.
Lots of lightning, thunder, torrential downpour and wind. And of course, being a fool in this state, the first thing you do in this kind of weather, is head outside to watch. Right?
It entertained me for only a minute or two. The storm hit from the West and hit hard. The wind was very strong. Strong enough I had concerns about the roof loosing more shingles (already called a place to come and replace some we lost from one of the last storms). In no time, I decided it was time to head to the basement. Even though the garage door opens to the East (where I was watching the storm) the wind whipping around was sending rain all the way into the garage and up to the door leading into the house. I figured I would watch the storm in the safety of the basement through the West facing windows.
That is when I found out three of the casement windows leak. (actually only two windows, but on one of them, both halves that open leaked.) There was standing water on the 8 inch wide ledge under them.
Since we had these windows replaced in the recent past, I called the contractor who put them in. He's done a lot of work for us and was very concerned about this problem. The windows he put in are top of the line windows. He said he's seen the testing on them, and they are designed to withstand wind and rain at a much higher speed than what we got during the storm.
He sent one of his guys out to check out the windows. To make sure it was the windows and not another problem. Also, if it was determined it was the windows leaking, they would get a rep from the manufacturer in to check them out as well for warranty purposes.
The contractors guy determined the rain had indeed blown in around the seals. That surprised him since he has the same windows on his place (he lives very close to us) and he had no problems with his. He believes the seals are faulty and need to be replaced. At the same time, he thinks for "normal" storms and rain, the windows aren't going to give us anymore problems before they can be fixed.
Right now, we are waiting to hear from the makers rep. After that, it shouldn't be too long before we get the seals replaced.
Both the contractor and the window maker have a lot riding on their reputations so I feel confident this will get fixed quickly.
Leaks happen.
Leakage sucks. Hopefully you won't have any more wild weather before the seals get replaced.
