sometimes.
One of the gifts I got for Christmas was a new computer game. Sort of...
D knew I was looking at a new game to play. When she found out which one, she got it for me. So she thought.
What she actually picked up was an "expansion pack" for the game. I mean, she tried to get me the game. And the box the Pack came in isn't all that clearly marked. It's there, but you have to pay close attention. D got a bit of grief about getting the extension to the game, without the game itself. (And not by me either.)
No biggie, really. I figure, I'd get the actual game, as you need it before you can install the expansion pack, then after I play it, install the pack and continue playing.
Sounds like a plan. Right?
Well it is (in case you had any doubts). So I went out right after the holiday and picked it up. Though, I did notice the games minimum requirements call for a slightly beefier video card than the one I have. So, while at the store, I asked the resident gaming geeks if my card would handle the game, or not. No sense buying it if it won't play.
They were mostly in agreement that my card should handle it, but I would most probably have to turn down the quality to keep it playing smoothly. But, if all else fails, a card that would handle it wasn't all that expensive. I decided to get the game, and if I needed to upgrade the card, I would do that later.
With things being busy, and me being not all up to speed over the holidays, I just got around to trying to install the game last night.
Problem.
After putting the disk in, the screen brought up a "read me" that said I couldn't run it unless I had the "full game" installed. ??? That IS the full game.
Newp. It was the Pack. Well, don't that beat all. I tried loading the pack first. DUH!!
When I grabbed the other box, I realized IT said "expansion pack" as well.
Serious confusion, now. Seems, I grabbed the wrong box off the shelf also. And I was so busy trying to find out if my card would play it, I never noticed.
So, D and I returned the second "Pack" to the store to exchange it for the actual game. Wouldn't you know, they were out of it. But, they looked it up on their computer and it shows that several are due in this week. On Thursday or Friday, I will give them a call and see if it is in. If it is, I'm picking it up.
Then I'll see if my video card will play the silly thing.
Of course D is feeling pretty good about the duplicate purchase. In one fell swoop, I took possession of the dunce cap over the game by buying the wrong thing a second time. That was AFTER all the ribbing she got, and the fact that I KNOW the game.
You just can't buy this kid of entertainment.
Games happen. (or, not.)
Dude, you are a DORK!
