what stories there are to tell. (I'm going to make sure the other stories come after this one. So you will read this first, then hit the others. So look below this post for more good stuff.)
First off, let me get the Winefest out of the way. This one benefits the "Home and Hospice Care", and it went very well. The new person working on learning the drill, did very well. Dudette and I just stepped back and let her have her way with the entire event, (only stepping in when help was needed, of course). Though that happened on a regular basis, it was at, and in, areas that were new and different to her.
Still, she did a great job. And the things we had to help with, were things that we had lived through before, and only happen when the planets are aligned just right. So it helped for her to see them, and for us to able to give advice on the situations.
The local college, helps staff this event with students that volunteer as part of their "Hospitality Degree Program". (They get a partial grade for working the event. After the event, they turn in papers about what they learned, and the experience they gained from working the event as the other part of their grade.) All the volunteers were great. A couple stood out from the rest by they way they conducted themselves, their engagement with the public, and the way they jumped in and "took ownership" of their tasks. I know a trainer from one of the sponsors, passed out business cards to several that really impressed them. Today's students, tomorrow's sales team.
The people from Home and Hospice Care, (volunteers from Home and Hospice Care, and the people they recruited from the community to help with this event) were wonderful. They had their game faces on, and worked their hearts out during the whole thing. Not only did they take care of their stuff, but we could rely on them to pitch in if we needed it. They were all pleasant and ready to jump in and help. Great job.
Though the final numbers aren't in yet, it looks like this was one of the best, if not THE best, turn outs this event has ever had. Not too shabby.
Festivals happen.
