I go to second shift starting Monday. I know my new boss is thrilled to hear about this. He has been running short staffed on 2nd for over 3 months now. And one of the replacements he picked up earlier this year, walked out one night and never came back.
He'd heard rumors to support this happening, weeks before hand. He even called the person into his office to discuss "other" changes, things, and ideas, hoping the person would either confirm or deny the rumors. He got no indication either way. When he came in the next morning, and a letter of resignation was sitting on his desk. The person walked out the night before, right after my new boss left for home. So much for professionalism, right?
So, another person and myself, starts Monday.
It should be interesting. It has been a few years since I last did the QA thing. I would have still been there, but a number of years back the company (under different management) tried a new approach with a "No Q.A. Needed Production System". The entire QA dept. was reduced to around 5 people (from around 125). Everyone else was released to production.
Needless to say, it didn't work and the management changed, again. Due to further changes in the way we work, the QA team doesn't need to be as large as it once was, but it is still needed. And now I am changing jobs...and shifts.
This shouldn't be a long term change. It won't be a short term change either. I figure I'll be on 2nd around a year, depending on how things work out. And since they are short handed, the learning curve will be a lot shorter. The two of us are going to have to hit the floor running.
One observation that has been made, both at work and at home, I always seem to get the "HOT" jobs. I can't decide if it is because I am so good, or so stupid.
Undecided happens.
Good luck getting adjusted to the time change!
