Going through the newspaper, there was an article I thought was just so cool. Software for printers, scanners and copiers prevents counterfeiters from copying money.
Read about it here.
I remember years (with a capitol "years") ago, one of the copier companies was denied the rights to make and sell a copier. When they went for their patenting on the system, one of the Gov. people attending asked how well, and what, it would copy.
They replied, "Anything, and it will an identical match. Both sides at the same time." They were very proud and excited about their new toy.
The Gov. guy popped in a 20 dollar bill and an exact (colored)copy came out. Both sides matched in location as well. "This won't do. You'll have to make it offset, have color issues, or not be as crisp."
"You want it defective?! No way."
"Then no patents. And, we'll keep this one. Consider it confiscated."
"But why?"
While they were in shock, and distracted, he had trimmed the copy down with scissors and had rubbed it to soften it. He handed both "bills" to the copier people. "Which is the real $20?"
They left. And that copier was never marketed.
BTW, that was over 30 years ago. Think what that could have done. No security strips, obvious watermarks or other security measures at that time. Even with all the measures taken today, we still have problems. And their copier was WAY ahead of the game.
Security happens.
