Crosby, Stills and Nash put on one hellava show. Though the stage was Spartan in its equipment, the band put forth some great sound. Very little stage theatrics were needed, the music and lyrics did the work.
A writer for the local newspaper (which will remain nameless--I'm a little steamed at their comments) carried on about how good the show was despite equipment troubles that plagued Steven Stills (and there were the first half of the show, between guitar issues and amp/speaker issue, I thought the tech was going to get hit or quit. And, I thought Stills was going to leave stage all together.) But the rest of the band moved around with different songs to give everyone the time needed to correct the problems. Not like they were at a loss for material.
The newsperson said that the band wasn't as tight on their harmonies, that Stills wasn't as dynamic on the guitar and a number of other whiny-ass complaints.
DUDE!!! Get over it.
You probably aren't as old as these guys have been playing. How could you know they weren't as tight as they were 30 YEARS ago? Were YOU at Woodstock???
C'mon. At 60+ years of age, and playing for 30+ years, yeah, the hands are going to be a little slower (not much though, judging by the compitition Stills had with the young, 2nd lead guitar player, Jeff Pevar.). And, yeah, their voices probably aren't as strong as they were, but they could still belt it out.
And, you have to remember, stage sound is NEVER as good as studio sound. I've only known 3 groups to sound as good on stage as on their recorded stuff.
Ranting aside, I thought it was a fantastic show. The band was tight. The vocals were close to record tight(Steven Stills voice is showing its age). Crosby's son on keyboards will be a force to contend with later on. And the 2nd lead guitar player, Jeff Pevar, look for him to do great things. He is unbelievable.
(Oh, by Spartan, on their stage show, at the end of the show I walked by the loading dock and there were 5 tour busses (for eight band members) and 1 semi for hauling equipment. Now, for Metallica's show, along the perimiter of the parking lot, there were at least 10 semi's parked and waiting. Nice comparison, isn't it?)
Tonight, I get to check out Metallica. Lets see how they fair in the papers.
Entertainment happens.
I would have loved to hear Crosby, Stills and Nash. Metallica doesn't do quite as much for me. Dear Husband doesn't recognized either of them, so I'll have to travel to Kansas and go concert hopping with you guys.

Fine with me, but first you have to wait for a wave of concerts to come through. Seems like there is a drought then a tidal wave of shows. I think this tidal wave is about through for a while.

Dude, weren't there 3 groups playing this week? What group didn't you see?

The three groups playing were; Crosby, Stills and Nash; Metallica (with surprise warm-up Godsmack) and Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.
Metallica and the Nelson/Dylan concert were the same night. I went to the Metallica one (obviously).
