Cop Car's retirement party went very well. H.H., Dudette, and I were in attendance offering support. It wasn't really needed.
A parade of people showed up for the festivities. After the obligitory speech letting, the parade proceeded to do the rounds, wishing well and shaking hands and giving hugs.
There were even two photographers from her work there, taking pictures of everything that moved (or didn't move, thorough group). They must have taken at least 300 pictures. Everything from the gifts received, to the cake, to numerous shots of the guest of honor. Seemed like every time Cop Car moved, they felt they needed to get a picture of it, just in case.
I figured the whole affair would be over in an hour, start to finish. WRONG! After the speeches and such, the procession line lasted for at least 45 minutes all by itself. Even the Executive Assintant helping with throwing the party together couldn't believe how long the line was.
Cop Car must have left an impression on a lot of people. She was honored by people currently working with her, past co-workers, people who got to know her, and retired friends and bosses. It was a group.
After the whole affair was over, Dudette, H.H. and I, loaded up the gifts and such from the party into my truck. Dudette and I ran everything home for her. H.H. had an appointment, and Cop Car still had 4 hours of "Company Time" to run out. Go figure.
To give you an idea, here is an excerpt from an e-mail Cop Car sent to us afterwards:
What an awsome day this has been. The turnout was overwhelming. When I went back up to the conference room to finish eating my mousse, people were still stopping by (and they continued to do so for another hour.) Once I left the conference room, they started coming by my office.
How cool.
Enjoy the retirement, you've earned it.
Rest (ha ha) finally happens.
...I was toying with retiring - but it sounds like too much hard work :^)...

Besides, Billy's horse in the Kentucky Derby never made it to the starting gate!
