Sunday, and the last day in St. Louis. Plans for the day, spend some more time with grandpa, visit with Helen and Mike, then hit the road home.
We wanted to spend more time with Helen and Mike but the schedules didn't work well. They DO have a business to run.
Back to the regular program;
Stopped by to see grandpa in the morning. He was having a good time enjoying breakfast. And a lot of it. He has a better appetite than I do. He was right on top of the world. We had a great time chatting. And he had a great time giving Chew a hard time. You would have had to be there to appreciate it. The old man is still spunky.
From there we headed over to Helen and Mikes for brunch and a visit. Helen made a typical spread for us, enough food to feed 10. It was all good. Life is good when you visit a professional cook with her credentials. If you don't beleive me, just check out her site at Truffes . This should give you some idea of the suffering we went through. It also explains why they were busy this weekend.
After eating, we got the "GRAND TOUR" of her retail shop and how much it's grown. By the time we got back, Mike had cleaned up all the dishes and we sat down and visited for about another hour before we had to hit the road home.
It is always tough leaving there, they have so many great stories to tell. And with as fast as Helen talks, that is a LOT of stories. But, with the limitations on time, it just wasn't going to happen this time.
And, it was time to leave.
The trip home was very pretty. All the trees were still doing thier thing with color. The kids were in the back working on a play Chew is in in school. It was a riot listening to them practice the lines for the play. Chew really needs to study them a little more. But, his screw-ups were hilarious. And it didn't help that, just when we thought Dudette was asleep, she would pipe up and add sound effects to the action going on in the play.
The only hiccup on the return trip was when we stopped for dinner. The first place we hit that looked good was a Waffle House. OK, not the Ritz, but it would do. The first sign that this was a bad decision, was when we walked in and the Air Conditioning wasn't working. It was about 15 degrees hotter inside than outside, and outside was hot enough. The second sign, was when we noticed the place was deserted except for the help. Time to go.
The next resturant was much better. Quick meal and back on the road.
Nothing beats your own bed and shower. It was GOOD to be home.
Now we're thinking about the next trip. We are thinking maybe it would be a good idea to make some regular visits. It is close enough to do and it is always good to see them. We are even thinking about a trip to visit my family in the near future. That should scare the hell out of them.
I know you had to have suffered mightily eating Helen's cooking - LOL.

The things we have to do to keep the relatives happy. It was terrible. But I held my own. Her cooking should be outlawed it's so good.

Too bad she doesn't mail her cheesecakes out (or at least shipping is not an option shown on her website). Maybe not, I would be a heifer if I could eat them whenever I wanted!

I think if you look at the prices, it should keep your diet in check. Nice thing about that, it is a built in check valve.
