It is time again for the Sedgwick County Zoo's Zoobilee . This an annual event and fundraiser for the Zoo. It is a six hour long party and social event. Heavy on the party. The Zoo only has this one fundraiser every year and it has always sold out, even at $100 a tickert to get in.
But once you are inside, everything except the auctions are free. There is enough food for everyone and all forms of liquid refreshment. The animals are a treat also, the Zoo staff even wanders around with some of the critters on leashes for the people to greet, up close and personal. Several bands will be playing, as well as live radio feeds.
Those that want to be seen, or seen with someone, will be there giving the peacocks a run for their money. But it is all good and for a good cause. It also is an added perk for working the event as well as the free food, drink and admission.
Dudette and I will be working at it again this year as we have for the past several. Dudette's work supplies beverages and volunteers to staff the tables to keep the "wild life" well watered. And wild life it is, did I mention this is like a six hour party?
We probably won't be back home until after midnight but I always enjoy these events.
Beverages = booze and/or wine (for those who don't know). Get the patrons all liquored up so when the auction starts, people bid more than they normally would.
Not a bad racket - and good for the zoo!

Sounds like a fun way to raise funds! I assume they aren't auctioning an evening cleaning out the lion house, or grooming the hyenas, Do local companies donate gifts?

Actually, the "auction lots" are sponserships for the animals. Zoobilee is the only fundraiser for the zoo. The first year we worked, I was amazed that the winning bid for the "big" auction lot, the lion exhibit, was $75,000! I'm not really sure what you get for winning other than your name on the exhibit. Maybe a fun-filled afternoon at the zoo feeding and grooming "your" animal!
