I'm a hard rock kind of person. Just like the driving bass and drums going all out. Screaming guitars and keyboard.
But, GREAT is GREAT.
And GREAT, is now gone. If you haven't read or heard about it by now, you've been under a rock.
Johnny Cash has gone to join June Carter Cash. What beautiful music there must be.
I would be willing to bet, if you ask any musician, regardless of style and taste, if they knew or were influenced by Johnny Cash, the answer would be yes.
I loved the pure human emotion in his words, and his voice. He didn't sing, he shared. Top that.
With respect, I wonder if he is still "The Man in Black"?
AR, One of the kids at work (he's not really a kid, just younger than me) loves one of Johnny Cash's latest albums. One where he covers other bands' songs. It was sure interesting to hear him sing Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Nine Inch Nail songs. I personally didn't care for most of that album, but I had no trouble identifying who was singing when AR put the CD on!

I'm sure that, by now, you've seen the editorial page cartoon in the local rag. Jim Borgman shows a back view of a lineup of angels standing in the clouds. All are in the traditional white robes and wings except one who is dressed entirely in black and who carries a geetar. From the cloud, above, comes a voice, "Johnny, about the outfit..."

The same thought came to me, that's why I asked the question, "...is he still 'The Man in Black'?" It would be fitting though, a rebellious angel. "A Boy Named Sue" style.
